I know you all wanted to meet David Cook up close and personal! Ever wondered why David haven’t shave his long beards yet? Well, a very lucky fan “Socalgirl” of Bittenbyacougar just was able to meet David and have taken some pictures of him and actually have David’s hands on her waist! I’m feeling jealous! hahaha! Anyways, read her story inside and take a look at the excerpt below. I Also have uploaded several pictures of David from the event, thanks to EH for this.
My overall impression is that he really doesn’t see himself the way we see him. Whatever “performing” he does when the camera is on - and you know exactly what I’m talking about! - is not who he is when he is off camera. Off camera he’s just a really nice, regular guy. He really is serious about his music, not about his sex appeal. I really do believe he sees himself as the “goof who got lucky” just like he says.

My DH and I went to this event - Taste for A Cure - tonight and had a great time. Since DH had some connections, we had great seating - Cook walked 5 feet from our table when he breezed in with his small entourage and we had a great view of him during his performances (see SexFaceMoneyNote thread for details about the show).
Out of the great respect I have for David Cook, I am sharing some things that reinforce why we love him in the first place and that you can only understand if you see him in person.
- It was easier meeting Jimmy Kimmel than David Cook! Let me just compliment Kimmel on how great he is. During the cocktail hour, he was talking to one friend and I decided to introduce myself to him. I thanked him for being there, told him my name, and then we were interrupted. At the end of the night, I said good-by to him on his way out and he remembered my name! He literally said Good-bye ____” and used my name. Jimmy Kimmel is a very nice (and hilariously funny) man.
- The Amercian Idol 2009 finale package (4 VIP tix) went for $12,000 in the live auction! And, sadly, not to me. Couldn’t come near that cost!
- Cook is clearly on a mission to make the fight against cancer his charity of choice. He was complimented several times by the Kevin Reilly, President of Fox, and other speakers about his immediate willingness to perform at this event.
- Cook came into the room with an entourage of about 5 or 6 people only about 10 minutes before he went on stage. “Do not pass go - do not collect $200.” He is definitely “handled” very carefully by his peeps.
- His personal joke of the night, which he told in between songs was that in October 1996, he was the “bus rider of the year”. He said he thought that was one of his greatest achievements. (In case you didn’t see my other thread, he did acoustic versions of TWIK, LOAP, and TOML. He was seated on a stool like he was on Ellen with guitar in hand. Stellar each one.)
- After the evening ended and Cook headed back by my table, I took the chance to walk with him on his way out. Literally leapt to my feet and asked to walk with him. He was everything you can imagine - gracious, funny, willing to chat. We talked about his pointy boots which he was wearing and a little bit of business chat. BTW, He was wearing his Eleanor Rigby/Top 3 jeans. His skin even more amazing in person. Too dark to peg the color of his eyes, damnit.
- By the time we got to the back of the room, lots of other people wanted autographs and photos. He obliged every single one and made everyone feel special.
- My DH took 3 pictures of me with Cook - it became a joke. First one was too dark, he forgot to SAVE the second one! So he took a 3rd. I said “you’ll remember us!” to which DC said “yeah, there was this lady and her husband couldn’t get the picture right…!” (I’m not ready to post the photos yet because I am in them and I actually have a professional identity in this town I’m not ready to expose). Suffice it to say, he was amused by our ineptitude with taking a simple cell phone photo and our determination and persistance!
- I knew DH had begun to admire DC when he complimented him on the Foo Fighters song he sung. DC said he’s been working to get that into the tour line-up (read - not as easy as he’d like).
- Finally, when I told him how anxious I was for his record, he threw out an amazingly large number of tracks he has at the ready. I don’t want to reveal the exact number to respect his privacy, but suffice it to say that my parting words were - well, you’d better get started on records 2, 3 and 4 then. He agreed and said he wants to.
- In case I need to say it - DC came alone to this event save for his professional reps. After he left the ballroom, he went to the hotel elevators with his peeps, not out to a waiting limo. I know no more than that.
By the end of the night, my DH was a Cook convert. The really great human being and talented guy that Cook is, came through.
The way he touches people just makes me believe that he is on the precipice of an amazing career. I recommend doing what you can to get an up-close-and-personal NOW while you still can! It’s going to get harder to touch him in years to come!
