FOX will be having David Cook live on New Years Eve, as the Texas born American Idol 7 winner will perform live from The Mirage in Las Vegas. This will be hosted by talkshow host Spike Feresten, and Mark Thompson who is the co-host of Hole In The Wall, a reality game show. It will also feature a count down to welcome 2009, with other celebrity guests and musical performances.

“I’ve been able to do some great co-writes,” Cook said in a phone interview. “It’s been fun.”

“I’ve spent the last year of my life singing other people’s songs,” Cook said. “At this stage it’s not looking too promising. I definitely want to progress past that and be an artist.”

“I’m looking to maybe get a little bit of downtime around Christmas,” Cook said. “I’m scheduled pretty much through the end of the year.”

David Cook might be able to relax by Christmas once his album is released and will spend on several tours with his new album.

Rob Cavallo, the Green Day producer who have won several Grammy awards have teamed up with David Cook working on all songs of his debut album to be released this fall.

Cavallo is “a great producer with the kind of sound that I want. …He’s just a good guy. Like the song selection I had on the show, Rob just fit.

Cook is co-writing the majority of the songs on the album, with professional help from Raine Maida of Our Lady Peace, Chantal Kreviazuk, the Nixons’ Zac Maloy and Ed Roland of Collective Soul, among others.

Skechers USA has signed American Idol winner David Cook to endorse the brand globally, hoping the new idol will super-charge the athletic shoe company’s cool, hip brand image.

I actually think this is a good move by Skechers. Idol, despite its detractors, is still a powerful entertainment vehicle. And Cook is a much stronger talent and personality than the last two winners—Jordin Sparks and Taylor Hicks.

The Cook deal was announced just a month after analyst firm Wedbush Morgan Securities lowered Skecher’s rating to “Buy” from “Strong Buy” because “a potential shift toward more athletic styles could pressure sales of the company’s core low profile product,” says Wedbush Morgan Securities analyst Jeff Mintz. The downgrade has contributed to a subsequent drop in Skechers stock price.
